Week 3 EOC: This Charming Man

I think that NELA sponsors the website because they are trying to help employees that have been abused in the workplace who don’t know if their employers actions were illegal or legal. They also sponsor it because they support employee’s rights and by sponsoring are showing this support. Three resources available on the website is workplace rights, protect your rights, and career help.  Under the workplace rights tab it has different links for hiring, discrimination, harassment, and much more about the work environment. Establishments that provide a welcoming environment and honor differences are less likely to have employees who feel mistreated and file complaints (Human Resources, Quality Service & Training, Hospitality & Restaurant Marketing, Pg. 385). The second tab is the protect your rights. When you click this tab you are then taken to different links that have to with pursuing legal action, working with employment lawyers, working with government agencies, and going to court. The last tab, career help, includes ways on how someone can improve on their LinkedIn profile, how to create a great resume, and career coaching. One of the work-related issues that may occur would be what we saw in the film during class, which was religion prejudice. In the film the Dutch are extremely rude towards the Muslims. This occurred on multiple occasions, one being in the museum and the second being in the bar. The bartender automatically assumed that the man didn’t drink because he was Muslim. These types of things can make people very uncomfortable and are unacceptable for the workplace. Recruiting a diverse workforce is an active process. It demonstrates the manager’s commitment to honor differences and encourage diversity while trying to find the best qualified persons regardless of race, color, national origin, or other differences. (Human Resources, Quality Service & Training, Hospitality & Restaurant Marketing, Pg. 387) Employees need to feel that they are not being treated differently due to their age, race, religion, etc. The workplace should be a place that they look forward to coming to everyday. It is important for employees to know that they are not being judged by factors, such as race and gender, or by other factors, including membership in a group or being the same as or different from the manager or other employees. (Human Resources, Quality Service & Training, Hospitality & Restaurant Marketing, Pg. 386)
