The job listing I found is for a Marketing Associate position at a company named Ultius, Inc. After looking it over and examining all the details included in the job listing, I thought that it listed everything necessary in order for the applicant to have a good understanding of what is expected. There are multiple sections of the job listing. These include job description, role description, key areas of accountability, nontechnical and technical skills, and additional information. Within these sections are a number of subcategories.

For the job description, a brief background of the company is written and the purposes that marketing associates have in the company. The second section, role description, mentions the major parts of the role. It states that, “The Marketing Associate position is best described as a content management role for the Ultius website and its pages”. The marketing associate will publish content based on Ultius’ guidelines. The key areas of accountability list areas that the marketing associate would be directly responsible for. Some of these are ensuring all outgoing work is high quality and relevant, using search engine optimization best practices to ensure our content fits in line with Google’s quality guidelines, and helping maintain a robust blog through relevant articles that are contextually interlinked, aided with images and charts and useful to people. The skills that the applicant must have are included in the post. These include both technical and nontechnical. A few of the technical ones are Google apps, Adobe Photoshop, and CMS Maintenance. The nontechnical ones are clear communication, initiative, eagerness to learn, discipline, and passion for quality in your work. The last section of the job posting includes background and experience, other notes, and the description of how Ultius is an Equal Opportunity Employer.

Overall, I think that this job posting had a substantial amount of information that is relevant. It lists all the skills and mentions everything that will be expected.

Week 5 EOC: Twitter Post Explanation

The first tweet that I am choosing to discuss is about how brands are actually waiting longer to start promoting back-to-school campaigns. According to Ace Matrix, an ad tracking firm, the first back-to-school ads started on July 11th which is five days later than last year.  "Marketers may have decided to air their ads closer to when viewers need to pay attention" (http://adage.com/article/cmo-strategy/brands-waited-school-finish-marketing-back-school/305438/). Retailers are really pushing back-to-school because the first quarter was not good. It was disastrous for a lot of companies. The top back-to-school ads are:
 1. Microsoft Windows, "College Students"
2. Kleenex, "Remember Your First Day"
3. Staples, "Pick Up",
4. Staples, "Back for More"
5. Kohl's, "Great Sale"

The next tweet I am choosing to talk about has to do with there being a connection between online shopping and the percentage of increase in dog attacks. I shared this article on my twitter because I just thought it was interesting how these two things impact each other because it didn’t really think about it before. A lot of retail companies are satisfying the need of convenience to their consumers. This includes delivering basically anything and everything to a person’s home whenever they want it including weekends. “To keep up, it's shifted service to weekends and evenings when people are more often at home and able to sign for their orders -- increasing the odds a dog will attack” (http://adage.com/article/digital/online-shopping-causing-a-rise-dog-attacks/305366/).

For my third tweet the article is called, Pepsi Buys First '#Promoted Sticker' Campaign on Twitter. I chose to post this on my Twitter because I just think it is crazy how big the impact social media has on companies and consumers. Companies spend millions of dollars on social media just so that they can stay ahead of the competition and reach their customers quickly. Pepsi is incorporating this how visual aspect into their marketing. "We got really excited about it because what stickers do is really allow consumers to express themselves visually on Twitter like never before…It serves as a visual hashtag” (http://adage.com/article/digital/pepsi-buys-promoted-sticker-campaign-twitter/305442/). I think that a lot more companies will engage in the more visual aspect of marketing.

Week 4 EOC: Physical Attractiveness

Honestly, I feel as though hiring based on physical attractiveness depends on the job. Since we live in Las Vegas, a lot of the jobs are considered sex jobs. This includes bartenders, pool attendants, and club workers. These jobs in Vegas use looks in order to hire people because they are dealing with the customers directly and trying to draw people in based on looks. Their tips also depend greatly on their looks along with service. If you are not working at a place that tries to draw customers in based on looks I don’t think that tattoos, scars, colored hair, piercings, etc. should really matter. As long as a person can fulfill their duties then they should be hired. One job that is very picky is the sales associate position at high-end retail stores. You aren’t allowed to have colored hair, which I think is crazy. As long as it is well kept and doesn’t have nasty looking roots it should be fine. Our society is changing and tattoos, piercings, and crazy colored hair are becoming more and more common. I just think it is crazy how some places haven’t accepted the change and still fire people based on these things. I could understand not hiring someone if a person had offensive tattoos such as curse words that were impossible to cover up like the man we talked about in class but other than that tattoos shouldn’t matter. They are becoming more and more common. One thing that I think is a must for every job though is personal hygiene. Personal hygiene is extremely important. I know that I personally don’t like dealing with a person if they smell or look like they haven’t showered or brushed their hair in the past couple days. It’s distracting and I only think about that rather than the main reason I am at the store. Personal hygiene is a controllable factor that is extremely important.

Week 3 EOC: This Charming Man

I think that NELA sponsors the website because they are trying to help employees that have been abused in the workplace who don’t know if their employers actions were illegal or legal. They also sponsor it because they support employee’s rights and by sponsoring are showing this support. Three resources available on the website is workplace rights, protect your rights, and career help.  Under the workplace rights tab it has different links for hiring, discrimination, harassment, and much more about the work environment. Establishments that provide a welcoming environment and honor differences are less likely to have employees who feel mistreated and file complaints (Human Resources, Quality Service & Training, Hospitality & Restaurant Marketing, Pg. 385). The second tab is the protect your rights. When you click this tab you are then taken to different links that have to with pursuing legal action, working with employment lawyers, working with government agencies, and going to court. The last tab, career help, includes ways on how someone can improve on their LinkedIn profile, how to create a great resume, and career coaching. One of the work-related issues that may occur would be what we saw in the film during class, which was religion prejudice. In the film the Dutch are extremely rude towards the Muslims. This occurred on multiple occasions, one being in the museum and the second being in the bar. The bartender automatically assumed that the man didn’t drink because he was Muslim. These types of things can make people very uncomfortable and are unacceptable for the workplace. Recruiting a diverse workforce is an active process. It demonstrates the manager’s commitment to honor differences and encourage diversity while trying to find the best qualified persons regardless of race, color, national origin, or other differences. (Human Resources, Quality Service & Training, Hospitality & Restaurant Marketing, Pg. 387) Employees need to feel that they are not being treated differently due to their age, race, religion, etc. The workplace should be a place that they look forward to coming to everyday. It is important for employees to know that they are not being judged by factors, such as race and gender, or by other factors, including membership in a group or being the same as or different from the manager or other employees. (Human Resources, Quality Service & Training, Hospitality & Restaurant Marketing, Pg. 386)
